TYNE VALLEY SUCKLER HERD TURNS TO THE POWER OF THE HEREFORD

We sell bulls nationwide but breaking into the local Northumberland suckler herd market has always been a challenge. As so many farmers are devoted to Limousin and Continental breeds.

Three years ago, Steven Smith of East Greenridge Farms approached us about purchasing a Hereford bull to work with his suckler cows. They visited our herd and took home Moralee 1 Ariat, a son of 2023 Sire of the Year Moralee 1 RHS Prince.

Crossed with Simmental Cross cows, the calves have proven strong, well-shaped and easy to calve.

Steven and his son William were so impressed by the docility, ease of fleshing and ability to match the DLWG of Continental cattle that they have bought two more Hereford bulls from us.

In 2024, they purchased Moralee 1 Barndancer and this year Moralee 1 Connor.

When Tom delivered Connor, he was delighted to see both Ariat, Barndancer and their calves. It was wonderful to witness the bulls’ development and the quality of the calves – a truly proud moment.

Herefords are a key part of East Greenridge Farms’ future plans. We’re excited to see their journey continue and thank the Smith family for trusting Moralee Herefords.

With more local farmers also turning to Hereford perhaps it’s worth considering?

We welcome enquiries about bulls, females or even a casual look for those curious or tempted!

Semen from Moralee bulls is also available from UK Sires or direct from us.
