CLINT & THE CROSSBREDS

ree

Our trip to The English Winter Fair at Stafford was certainly worthwhile setting off at 5am in the middle of a storm!

Our sole Hereford entry in the National Pedigree Calf Show was Moralee 1 Clint PA381.

The 13 month old did us more than proud - winning the Senior Male Class, Overall Male Championship and then the Hereford Supreme Championship.

He is an ET son of the late great Coley 1 Pippa 356 our Royal Highland Champion of 2017, and sire is our lesser known home bred bull Moralee 1 Panda (Moralee 1 Kylie X SMH Kingsize - semen still available from Semex).

Clint did not look out of place in the Overall Interbreed and this much admired young bull will be offered for sale at Stirling Bull Sales in February.

The Male Championship also saw Keadyview 1 Cuddles a young bull sired by Moralee 1 Rebel Kicks take the Reserve Champion spot after winning a strong junior bull class.

Congratulations Steven, Helen and Cerys O'Kane we are so glad Rebel has bred well for you.

We also had a little bit of fun with two crossbred calves in the Baby Beef Show.

As you would expect "Toon" an April born Hereford X Aberdeen Angus and "Teeter" a March born Hereford X Charolais were swamped by Continental competition in the classes. A Native Class would have been better.

However both calves sired by stock bull Dendor 1 Tecwyn were much sought after in the auction on Sunday.

Both calves were purchased for £2,000 and £1,900 as a wedding gift ahead of a January wedding. They were bought by Rupert Evans, Denston Hall Farm Shop, Uttoxeter for his fiancée.

They will be retained in the herd as future breeders ... good luck to all concerned!

Many thanks to the organisers, judges and stewards at the English Winter Fair - as always a fantastic weekend.
